Split subtitles
Divide one subtitle file into several. Cut it at a single timestamp, into equal parts, or at a list of points, which is handy when a movie has been split into two discs or a long recording into episodes. Choose whether each part keeps its original timing or restarts from zero, then download the parts one by one or as a zip. Nothing is uploaded.
Splitting a subtitle file into parts
Sometimes one subtitle track needs to become several: a film released as two files, a long lecture cut into sections, or a single track you want to hand out in pieces. Splitting decides which cue belongs to which part by its start time, so nothing gets chopped mid-line, and it writes each part back in the format you loaded.
If you're only separating the subtitles, leave the timing alone so every part still matches the original video. If you've also cut the video at the same points, turn on restart from zero and each part's timing is shifted back to line up with the start of its own clip. It works on SRT, VTT, ASS, and .sub, and for .ass the styles are carried into every part. Download the parts individually or grab them all in one zip.
FAQ
Which part does a subtitle on the split line go to?
Cues are sorted by their start time. A cue that starts before the split point goes to the earlier part, and one that starts at or after it goes to the next part. A cue that begins just before the line and ends just after it stays whole in the earlier part rather than being cut in half.
Should I restart each part from zero?
Turn it on when you've also cut the video at those points, so each part becomes its own file that starts at 0:00. The timing of every part is shifted back so its first moment lines up with the start of that clip. Leave it off to keep the original timestamps, which is right when the parts still play against the full-length video.
Does splitting keep the formatting?
Yes. Each part is saved in the same format as the file you loaded, with the base filename plus a part number. For .ass files, the script info and styles are copied into every part so styling is preserved, and only the timing and which lines belong where change.
