SAMI marks when each caption starts but often leaves the end implied. Where an end time is missing, it's taken from the next caption's start, so timing stays continuous.

SAMI and SRT, briefly

SAMI (.smi) is Microsoft's HTML-like caption format, built from <SYNC Start=…> markers and <P> text. It was common with Windows Media Player and many older Korean and Asian releases.

SAMI usually records only when a caption appears, not when it disappears, using a blank sync to clear the screen. This converter reads the sync timings and text and derives each cue's end time from the following sync where it's implied, then writes a standard SubRip .srt with clean start and end times.

FAQ

Why does SAMI need end times derived?

SAMI marks the start of each caption with atag and clears the screen with a blank sync rather than storing an explicit end. The converter uses the next sync's start as the current cue's end, which is how a SAMI player shows it.

Is styling kept?

No. SRT is plain text, so SAMI's CSS classes and formatting are dropped. The text and timing come across.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. It's converted in your browser and never leaves your device.
